The source code of #PawFed is now available on #Codeberg. PawFed is a federated map for animal welfare: reports come from the #Fediverse via #ActivityPub mentions, and permanent places like shelters and vets are pulled from OpenStreetMap.

A location is not always required: if you have supplies or food to give away and can ship, just say so.

Found an abandoned animal? Just report it.

Hello. I’m looking for apps for Pixelfed and BookWyrm and I’m a bit lost. I’ve tried the F-Droid alternatives, but they’re not stable… Do you have any recommendations?

I hope it’s just growing pains.

Dunno if it’s related, but the instance seems to be having issues receiving federated contents from some instances for nearly 2 months now.

Summit is dead for several hours now too, at least for me. Have fallen back to the piefed PWA.

Heh, it’s possible to integrate piefed inside zulip thanks to integrations. It’s also certainly possible to integrate zulip inside piefed but that’s another thing.

Integrating zulip inside piefed is certainly interesting, maybe just an adapter of the piefed api over zulip’s api should be enough. I don’t see why the software should be checked though

Somehow i think both software are similar, very close to each other. Zulip only misses a server federation protocole :)

Right now to me it’s more important to improve piefed so that I can use its api without using too much resources, and with a bit more reactivity

Well if you have the skill to achieve that it would be greatly appreciated. The dev team would be very happy to have a new contributor 😁 but you should follow your dream…i hope more users will help :3

Instance software is constantly evolving and adding new features. Wouldn’t it be good if there was a way for other instances to discover what features yours can handle, to determine how they will communicate?

One way to do this could be to add the FEPs, etc that an instance supports to the nodeinfo response that it serves. Possibly as a protocol, a service or just in the metadata part.

Where would make the most sense? Or is there another mechanism apart from nodeinfo entirely?

Maybe I’ve been mind controlled, but I’m used to the algorithmic feed of youtube and reddit. The default simple reverse chronological method of mastodon is hard to use for me.

I’m not interested in reading each and every post, but prefer the most sensational ones upfront..

I’ve tried googling but couldn’t find much apart from a third party website I had to put my login creds into..

Do you guys have a better solution for this?

A better solution would be to get used to an algorithm-free feed. Having “sensational” BS blasted at you at all times is addictive, shortens your attention span, and is the reason Mastodon didn’t go for those algorithms.

hmm I see, I think I’ll just try sticking. It must be working, the environment is much nicer than the other social media.. but the thought that I have to read all those posts..

So I got this bot that allows multiple people to curate a list of toots that are boosted by it, to create a nice topical account to follow.

Now I only need ideas what to boost haha :)

Continuing to look for an alternative to "attachment" (for properly supporting an Actor specifying a list of Service actors associated with it) —

Maybe a custom top-level attribute would be useful.

Maybe something like:

Although perhaps that is not much better than "attachment", if you just care about calls
