I have a relative staying over right now and he has to have an opinion on.. everything. Examples:

“That’s a nice watch.. How much did you pay for it? That much? That’s too much money”.

“That meal looks good.. You should add some cheese to it”

“What size is your bottle? Don’t you think it’s a bit large? it would be better if it was smaller”

“That would be better if they didn’t add sugar to it. They put too much sugar in it.” Me: “There’s no added sugar”. “That would be better if they didn’t add sugar to it.”

LIKE BRO????

Nowadays I don’t have this problem, but I know exactly which sort of person you’re talking about: they act as if their opinion was always important, relevant, or welcome.

For me it’s most of the time just an annoyance, except in one situation: if they’re vomiting uncalled advice on my face, because then I’ll interpret it as an insult.

Not a relative but a friend. He has an opinion on everything and also usually has the only correct answer for every question too.

Boy wish o could be like him… Never a doubt

Doubt is often a good sign of a working mind.

I did have those, i have cut them out of my life.

Typically the over opinionated bullshit morphs into jabs, insults and outright to hostility….. I just got sick of dealing with it and cut them out of my life.

I avoid this type of person. I don’t have the mental energy for someone who thinks they are the only person on the planet. Only excusable one might be advice on getting the same item somewhere else for less, but framing should be tactful because this topic can sometimes lead to embarrassment.

Even better, a mom, and one I have to be around more than I’d like now that she’s elderly.

Kick them out. You deserve peace in your own home. People like that are always going to have something to say about what you do

Maybe it’s just my experience, I’ve noticed this to be a near universal Boomer trait. It’s as if they are incapable of keeping an opinion to themselves and worse yet, act upon this impulse with the expectation that whomever they’re speaking to will be grateful for it and if not it is somehow a personal insult.

I think you’re onto something here. I can see exceptions (some non-boomers doing this shit, some boomers not doing it), but it does sound like something you’d expect from your typical boomer. And it fits, since plenty boomers are entitled shitlets acting as if the world revolved around their individual belly buttons, opinions are just an extension of that.

It’s performative insecurity. And it’s not an opinion, it’s bullying. That’s the point, to steamroll other people and their opinions to make people capitulate to their “way of doing things.” To make them feel good about themselves. Which is cheap and fleeting.

The not listening thing in the last example is more irksome than them having an opinion.
