TrueNAS build system going closed source

Readme updated today:

This repository is no longer actively maintained.

The TrueNAS build system previously hosted here has been moved to an internal infrastructure. This transition was necessary to meet new security requirements, including support for Secure Boot and related platform integrity features that require tighter control over the build and signing pipeline.

No further updates, pull requests, or issues will be accepted. Existing content is preserved here for historical reference only.

Wondering if this is just the first step towards doing a minio in the future.

Lead Lemmy developer dessalines@lemmy.ml Appears to Have Had Their Account Compromised After Moderation Actions Raise Serious Concerns

$$8540
https://lemmy.world/u/autonomoususer posted on Mar 8, 2026 01:16

Cross posted here as it was highlighted that the individual is a lead Lemmy developer, raising serious concerns about the direction of Lemmy, a leading Fediverse platform, and the impact on future user adoption.

Hi

There have been some rather concerning actions taken by an admin of the !privacy@lemmy.ml community, dessalines@lemmy.ml. Based on recent moderation decisions and a complete lack of communication, it seems like their account may have been compromised, or even more concerning if these actions are deliberate.

  1. Erroneous Rule 4 Enforcement, First Instance: a guide posted to !privacy@lemmy.ml, despite receiving many positive votes and comments, was removed under Rule 4:

If you have a question, please try searching for previous discussions, maybe it has already been answered

However, this post was a guide and not a question, so Rule 4 does not apply. Attempts were made to reach out for clarification but there has been no response, despite their account showing recent activity.

  1. Erroneous Rule 4 Enforcement, Second Instance: an on-topic informational video also posted to !privacy@lemmy.ml, despite also receiving many positive votes, was again removed under Rule 4. This post was again not asking a question, so again Rule 4 does not apply. Again, no explanation has been given.

  2. User Bans in Completely Unrelated Communities: user bans of over a month have been applied for not only !privacy@lemmy.ml but several completely unrelated communities:

  • !emacs@lemmy.ml
  • !personalfinance@lemmy.ml
  • !linux@lemmy.ml
  • !lemmy_support@lemmy.ml
  • !opensource@lemmy.ml
  • !india@lemmy.ml
  • !asklemmy@lemmy.ml
  • !steam@lemmy.ml
  • !linux_gaming@lemmy.ml
  • !degoogle@lemmy.ml
  • !libre_software@lemmy.ml

This is especially concerning given that the above posts have no relation to these communities, and no recent activity has been made in any of them, meaning none of their rules could have been broken. Moreover, a public track record of positive contributions across Lemmy has been established, with many positive votes and comments received over a sustained period. Given all of this, the bans appear to be highly disproportionate, only adding to the growing concerns around moderation practices.

  1. Repost with Disclaimer Removed: a repost of the guide, despite a disclaimer explaining the original removal appears to be in error and that attempts to contact the admin have failed, despite again receiving many positive votes and constructive comments, was once again removed. Again, no explanation has been given.

Given all of this, it’s hard to avoid the conclusion that something is not right. Mistakes in moderation happen but the complete lack of communication, the disproportionate actions, and the ongoing bans from unrelated communities raise serious concerns. It seems as though the account is most likely compromised, or even more concerning if these actions are deliberate.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues with this admin, or does anyone have more insight into what might be happening?

TL;DR: Admin dessalines@lemmy.ml of !privacy@lemmy.ml appears to be making seriously concerning moderation decisions, including erroneous enforcement of Rule 4 in at least two separate instances, failing to respond to messages, and applying user bans in completely unrelated communities despite a long track record of positive contributions across Lemmy. This has led to speculation that their account is likely compromised, or even more concerning if these actions are deliberate.

Any thoughts or similar experiences would be appreciated.

In arr stack how to pick indexers?

$$5680
https://lemmy.zip/u/troubling087 posted on Mar 1, 2026 14:04

I had a small media library for myself, and wanted to automate it a bit more, so implemented arr stack (prowlarr, radarr, lidarr), it seems to work but I’m not sure how to pick indexers. I have no experience with it, and I initially just picked a public one, but it barely ever seems to download something.

I’m a bit confused about it, should i just pick as many as I can? Or join a private one? But no idea where to start there.

Any advice or push in the right direction would be appreciated.

Having a few public indexers shouldn’t hurt. However you probably don’t want to add a ton otherwise you will likely end up being overloaded by duplicates.

But really you should invest in getting into private trackers. Even an entry to mid-tier tracker will get you far better and more reliable results than public. Also the content will generally be much better seeded and more reliable.

I use Prowlarr with Flaresolverr.

Setup the Flaresolverr indexer proxy in Prowlarr: - Tags: flaresolverr - Host: http://flaresolverr:8191/ (or whatever host+port your flaresolv

And then I use these: - 1337x (Add Tags: flaresolverr) - TorrentDownload - Knaben

It’s not the best and Knaben is mostly just TPB + Rutracker. But this setup gets me everything I need. Everything wrong is filtered as I made my setup look for HEVC with specific bit rate ranges. Invalid file extensions are filtered out.

For actual downloading I use RDT Client with the TorBox debrid service.

Sometimes some indexing services time out but I’ll get the content later.

In my experience, with this setup, I really don’t need Usenet or private torrent trackers.

Readarr Forks/Replacements

https://sopuli.xyz/u/ytg posted on Feb 24, 2026 09:07

Ever since Readarr was officially discontinued, many forks and replacements have popped up. I’m currently running pennydreadful/bookshelf, which seems to be chugging along. Faustvii/Readarr is also around but seems to not be actively meaintained??

There’s also Chaptarr, which looks promising, but I’ve heard concerns about it being vibe-coded and such (see rreading-glasses: “I do not endorse the vibe-coded Chaptarr project.”). Does anybody know to what extent this is true, and what the code quality is like?

??

Caliber web isn’t two separate applications, it’s a calibre-compatible database served via http. There is no desktop “calibre” involved.

There is integrated koreader sync, though.

Yep! for a while I deployed Calibre-Web alongside Calibre in a ‘books’ compose.yaml stack using Docker. I used volume mounts to expose my library to both containers. The main thing to be cautious of is that you don’t write to the db from both C and CW at the same time (which could result in corruption). Some folks spin up/down Calibre as-needed, but I had them both running and was just mindful. I personally ended up switching from C+CW to Calibre-Web Automated and fully removing Calibre. I’m able to do everything from CWA that I was doing in both previously. FWIW if you are managing devices (e.g., family, etc.), Kobo devices + Kobo sync via CW/CWA is wonderful for usability (books show up on devices ‘natively’).
