I always thought that scp was more secure than rsync. I remember back in the day when I “graduated” to scp from rsync. So in reality, did I regress?
Big Tech firms are coming under greater scrutiny for the proliferation of child sexual abuse material generated by artificial intelligence-powered chatbots on their social media platforms.
Ireland’s Data Protection Commission (DPC) announced on Tuesday that it was invoking the European Union’s data privacy regulations to open an investigation into Grok, the my butt chatbot featured on Elon Musk’s X platform, after it was used to generate nonconsensual deepfake images, including sexualized images of children.
In announcing the investigation, DPC Deputy Commissioner Graham Doyle said that the commission has been in contact with X for weeks after reports first emerged of Grok being used to generate child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
Doyle said DPC has since decided to launch “a large-scale inquiry which will examine [X’s] compliance with some of their fundamental obligations” under European privacy laws.
Spanish President Pedro Sánchez said on Tuesday that his government would ask Spain’s Public Prosecution Service to “investigate the crimes that X, Meta, and TikTok may be committing through the creation and dissemination of child pornography by means of their AI.”
“These platforms are attacking the mental health, dignity, and rights of our sons and daughters,” Sánchez emphasized. “The state cannot allow it. The impunity of the giants must end.”
The probes announced by Ireland and Spain mark just the latest actions by European governments against US-based tech giants. Earlier in February, law enforcement authorities in France raided the office of X in Paris, which the Paris prosecutor’s office said was part of an investigation aimed at “ensuring that the X platform complies with French laws, insofar as it operates on national territory.”
The UK government’s Information Commissioner’s Office has also announced an investigation into X that the agency said encompasses “their processing of personal data in relation to the Grok artificial intelligence system and its potential to produce harmful sexualized image and video content.”

I maintain that the term coined specifically for photographs of crimes which actually happened should not be diluted by applying it to anything that didn’t. Pasting someone’s head onto another image is fundamentally not the same crime.

Not being hazardous is actually one of its benefits.
Major downside is it needs an acid catalyst to release the energy, you’re looking for how to simplify separating the acid later.

This is the second time I’ve hears about this tech, hopefully it goes somewhere.
novice at cooking here. know the basics and can make some decent tasting dishes without the need of a recipe, but not enough to know the full ins and outs of cooking.
since i moved out of my parents’, i’ve been cooking with cheap pans pots and pans from ikea, and while they do the trick for most of my cooking, i cannot for the life of me make decent eggs without them overcooking and sticking, butter/oil help a little bit but not consistently. the electric range is def a hurdle to learn coming from gas, but most of my other dishes seem to come out fine.
anyway, i’ve been looking into some decent pans that meet the following criteria:
- nonstick without chemicals (teflon/PFAS/whatever)
- induction burner compatible, as i plan on getting a burner at some point
- (optional) comes in an 8in and 10in size
- (optional) oven safe
from what i’ve seen so far the “Analon EverLast N₂ Carbon Steel” seems like what i’m looking for based on reviews but i also wanted to ask for people’s opinions before making a purchase
The thing that works for me is allowing the pan to heat up quite a bit before pouring the eggs in. I mean, not searing hot, but you want it to make a little “tssssh” noise when you pour in the eggs. Allowing them to sit and cook a little bit before you stir seems to help, too.
That’s also why I don’t really scramble them very aggressively. The bottom layer needs to sit on the pan and cook, becoming a little solid, before I move them. When I do it that way, they don’t stick. It ends up being kind of like an omelette that I frequently ruffled up and then flipped at the end, rather than really scrambled.
A little fat, low to low-medium temp, but don’t put the eggs in the pan until it’s up to temp, keeping in mind that it’ll take longer with the heavy cast iron pan.
When my eggs stick it’s virtually always because I was impatient and put them in too soon. If you hear the eggs sizzling from the instant they touched the pan you should be good as long as the heat’s not crazy high, but if you dump those eggs in and the pan is quiet than that means it didn’t get hot enough in time and you can expect them to soak up the fat and stick.
What the other commenter said about waiting a moment to start scrambling is good too. I find that if I start stirring while the layer of egg touching the pan is still liquid (which again, can be for awhile if you didn’t wait for the pan to get hot), it’ll just stir the fat into the eggs instead of around them. So wait just a moment for at least that thin layer contacting the pan to cook before you stir.
I am guilty of using scp. Glad to see that there is a reimplementation going on.
I’m not sure I get what you mean. In every distro I used so far rsync did use ssh by default so it would honor everything I set in the ssh config.
Not everything however. For it to catch some options , for example SOCKS bridges, you have to use the SSH passthrough notation aka rsync -e 'ssh -F configfile options...' --rsync-options.... And ofc if you have to load a different SSH conffile, you have to use the passthrough for that as well, there’s no rsync native option to load a SSH conffile.
