Sausage and peppers mit fries

$$5948
https://lemmy.world/u/FauxPseudo posted on Mar 1, 2026 23:16

A mix of sweet and hot Italian sausage. Peppers and onions were done in the wok to get some char on them.
One of these is pickled sweet pepper relish I made last year. Fries were twice fried like Five Guys. I didn’t tell my wife that. As she started eating them she said “this needs malt vinegar” and I knew I had won. I got her some malt vinegar. I was out of provolone so I went with cheddar.

Cost per person $4.35 Cost at street fair: $24-$35

This is a stupid simple meal that is very satisfying. You can use sour cream instead of avocado to cut costs but don’t try and use both because it will overwhelm the potato goodness.

Cost per person: $2.25

I like their spicy potato soft taco which is on the value menu. But sometimes their potatoes are extra firm. No bueno.

Burgers and chips again but better

$$5139
https://lemmy.world/u/FauxPseudo posted on Feb 27, 2026 22:21

Mustard, ketchup, red onion, thick cut bacon, relish, commercial buns, and pseudo cheese.

Flavor and texture wise this is the closest I’ve ever gotten to a premium commercial burger. Not the chain places but the roadside shack next to the strip club that has grass carpet, plastic chairs and dancers that are expecting. These burgers are really good.

Homemade chips. As for the chips I made sure to slice long slices which also resulted in the best chips.

I have run out of pickle relish.

This was not my choice. Wife demanded “heme with fat” and I asked about pork steak but she decided that burgers were the answer. This is going to require at least one vegetarian meal this week to balance the budget. Ground beef is way too expensive.

Cost per person $7.07

I honestly don’t know how people afford to get fast food delivered to them. People have to learn how to cook. Food delivery services are stealing from the poor. And by poor I mean people who are 12 paychecks or less away from being homeless.

Hello all,

I gave a weird question. I follow many chefs on Facebook and save loads of recipes but they are difficult to find later and even more difficult to organize and use later. How do you deal with this?

I’ve been using the recipe add on for nextcloud, it works fine for me. I also have no idea if it works with facebook. It can load a recipe from a URL, but I don’t think facebook lets you look at things without logging in so it probably wouldn’t work.

Mushroom galette with farmer’s cheese, onion, and dandelion greens. I ate it with a vin de France from La Rocalière, in northern Rhône, which was better than my dough.

Egg wash for presentation, but taste buds for reality, is it not?

Vrai! We eat first with our eyes… but we really eat with our mouths.

I have an affinity, really a longing, for foraged greens. Dandelion is up there, as are fiddlehead ferns, ramps, and wild onions. Number one is definitely morels, and the next time I go morel hunting I’ll definitely post whatever I cook.

I bought these, sadly. City living has its perks, but I wouldn’t trust the local dandelions either.

Pork dumplings

$$3947
https://lemmy.world/u/StickyDango posted on Feb 25, 2026 05:00

Most definitely late, but I did make these over the weekend. These are pork and wombok dumplings. The worst part of these is that they take so much time to prepare, but only 5 seconds to eat. However, I don’t make these often, and they’re worth it. I make extras and freeze them for quick (lazy) meals.

Happy belated Lunar New Year to those who celebrate!

What’s your favourite dipping sauce?? When I don’t have any sichuan chili oil left, I just use a bit of light soy sauce, and either sesame oil or sichuan chili oil. About 1:2 ratio.

Flank steak burritos

https://lemmy.world/u/FauxPseudo posted on Feb 24, 2026 21:51

Got a little bit of money. Almost wet out for Mexican but decided to do it at home. Flank steak burritos with store bought salsa, guacamole, tortillas and side of refried beans. Probably the most expensive Mexican meal I’ve ever had outside of a restaurant. But they didn’t have any tomatoes or ripe avocados.

Cost per person, $9 Still cheaper than a restaurant. Unfortunately home doesn’t have any margaritas or Negro Modelo.

Ok the sauce was improvising.

Take a can of peeled whole tomatoes, I take san marzano tomatoes

Squash them with your hands.

Cook some chop onions (12 is enough) maybe 2-3 minutes so the onion don’t burn, add 3 garlic cloves and 12 tablespoons of crushed red pepper (less if you want something less hot). Cook a 2min at mid-low heat

Add the tomatoes, add some basil leaf (I used 4 or 5). Let simmer at low for 15 to 20 min (even less). Taste and adjust.

Blend everything to the preferred consistency
