Treatable but not curable :‘(
I thoroughly enjoyed both shows. I wish they were available for streaming somewhere! Both shows helped me get through a hospital recovery and relearning English. Stay strong Bruce!
Oh man, seeing folks suggest it as a Discord alternative always had me uninterested, because I don’t even use Discord and it just seemed like yet-another-standard.
Now I’m reading this really technical title for a talk which mentions XMPP and I’m instantly sold.
Well, to be honest, “Movim” also sounded like a VC-funded startup. Looks like it’s a bus-factor-of-1 open-source project instead, which I have significantly more trust in.
You have to ask whoever is running the server but it is possible
This reminds me of the way that forgejo lets you feed it an arbitrary openid url, sp you can log in with any service you want, including your own server.
This is awesome!!!!
I’m not sure what other lemmy community might be fitting for this post, so here I go. Feel free to redirect me if you know of another community that might have an answer for me.
Starting this year, my whole kitchen starts smelling really weird whenever I turn on my electric oven.
It’s not inside the oven. I just turned it on, and when the smell was starting to appear, I opened the oven and smelled the warm air. It was smelling as normal, so it’s something outside the oven.
It’s an odd smell that doesn’t smell like anything I’ve ever experienced. I’ve talked about this with a friend, they suggested it might be the insulation around the oven that might contain some kind of bacterial growth. My washing machine did flood my kitchen a bit between the years, but since the oven has a drawer underneath, I’d be surprised if the insulation got wet somehow. Could the insulation get bacterial growth from just high air humidity for a few days?
Are there things I could to to test whether the air is safe to breathe? The smell just smells… off. It’s not a sharp smell, but I do feel like I get a slight headache whenever I smell it, which might just be placebo because of the deeply unpleasant smell.
I’m at a loss as to what I can do short of replacing the whole thing, which seems overkill.
Except on chili night.
Meh, you meant well.
And franky a CO detector is like a smoke detector - better to just have.

I’ve been working on Habitat for the past two years. It all stemmed from this idea that I posted in April 2024.
Habitat is a free open-source, self hosted social platform for local communities. It is aimed at fostering local community discussions and discovery of areas of interest. This is why it is built primarily around location. A Habitat instance centers on a specific area, and the local community can make generic posts about that area, or they can make posts about specific locations in that area. More about what I’ve been building and the future plans here.
Features
- Habitat specification of location and size - enabling posts related to the local area
- Home feed - Displays the most recent posts
- Nearby feed - Displays posts sorted by proximity to the user
- Create posts - Upload photos, set locations, comments
- Categories - Location rules
- Amazon S3 image storage option
- Personalisation - Overrides Habitat defaults per user: kms/miles, hidden categories
- Moderation tools - User, post, comment moderation, block email addresses
- Announcements - Scheduled announcements
- Public moderation log - Keep moderator actions visible for 30 days
If you’re interest in this at all, please give it a spin and let me know how you get on. I’ll keep an eye here on Lemmy, but you can also post to the Habitat discussion board on GitHub.
That’s an interesting idea. I think this would be most successful in a city that prides itself on being high-tech. Maybe somewhere in Japan or somewhere in Silicon Valley or something.
Nice that doesn’t sound too hard
Kiss of death.
Larry Ellison’s kid is vouching for it. That’s really all I needed to hear!

Every time I see “Small Prophets” mentioned I get excited for a second thinking it’s Terry Pratchett’s “Small Gods”.
I’m on season 3 of Captain Marleau aka Capitaine Marleau - This is a top tier crime dramedy, Marleau is one of the best female characters ever. Started season 4 of Dark Winds - I love it so much, can’t wait to see what story they came up with for this season. I’m almost done with Spring Tide aka Springfloden - season 2 is much better than 1 for me, I’m glad I decided to stick with the show Finished season 1 of Fallen aka Sanningen (2023) - I can’t wait until season 2 gets exported I’m watching season 3 of Arctic Circle aka Ivalo (2018) - season 1 was just ok, but season 2 was awesome… so far season 3 is good
I’ve been self hosting traditionally in debian, but I would like to be able to add services easier using docker. As such, I’m looking to move to a container based architecture.
One place I struggle is that I can’t seem to find a good container where the default image supports ACME to support Let’s encrypt for automatic cert renewal.
For Nginx, I would have you build my container. HAproxy ACME support seems to be a shell script.
Any suggestions?
You can bake haproxy and acme.sh into a container yourself. Haproxy is hands down the best performing/least resource consuming RP. Dynamic management, like mimicing Traefiks service discovery, can be a bit tricky though. Yes, it doesn’t support ACME itself but once you get passed the “hello world” RP’ing and need something more advanced, like ACME DNS01, Haproxy with acme.sh is your buddy for life.
Npm and npmplus are great
I hope this is allowed. After the untimely demise of the only NSFW Lemmy instance, a Piefed replacement has come along: https://fedinsfw.app/
I hadn’t seen many posts about it, so I thought others might want to know.
By this point I feel like I kinda am too, so this should be interesting.
Then the rules need to change
