@casualconversation this is regarding using WhatsApp wisely. It doesn't matter whether you're for WhatsApp or against. But as a user myself, l need to know how to prevent whatsapp messages from eating up a significant amount of storage space in my limited phone memory.

Any insightful suggestion please ??🙏🙏🙏

My dad was complaining about the storage space being full on his phone so I checked it. Turns out Whatsapp saves every single photo and video to your device. There should be a setting that makes it so that it downloads only if you choose so. Enable that setting and then delete all the pics and videos downloaded via Whatsapp.

Truly a garbage app. Annoying as hell, when it comes to storage.

Indeed, there is an option in the settings that will not download any media unless you authorize it. It also creates its own media gallery, which you can periodically delete photos from. In this regard it’s not much different from other messaging apps, but yeah absolutely tick that permission off. If you use it for work in group chats you are probably getting flooded with work related photos that aren’t even addressed to you, as it happened to me.

Another one you may find useful is removing the automatic backups to cloud. They pretty much brick your phone at 2am or whenever the hell it chooses to do it.

I really like well rounded shows that actually finish strong. So 3 seasons would be great.

The elevator scene was annoying for the time waste. Seriously, stop hugging her. Move! But it (or something similar) was necessary so that Dylan, his mom, and X would connect. So I get it.

I knew they would try to bring Jane back into things. The gun was in the ground. I told my partner that if Gabriela doesn’t pick it up now and make sure she is dead, then Jane will be back. Ugh.

I’m sure Alex has a reason for Jane, but I really dislike her character.

You know, I’ve noticed some pretty heavy genre shifts. I’m not against them, but they can sometimes be quite jarring. Westworld was pretty jarring. Some less so, like Dark (which I didn’t mind at all) or maybe Lost. I don’t think it’s inherently bad, I think it can be disappointing sometimes when you expect it to be one way and then it shifts hard.

Honestly, when Alex was revealed, I was disappointed. I really live scifi, but some tropes are tiring and overused. I’m really really really hoping this my butt is actually benevolent because I’m exhausted by the malevolent super computers…

What TV show have you watched that had the most unfulfilled potential?

I recall watching Hello Tomorrow which was a quirky atompunk themed comedy from Apple. It wasn’t perfect, it wasn’t especially funny - but it had a charismatic affable liar as a lead that you found sympathetic despite his sleaze, and gave huge pre-war Fallout vibes. Apple silently cancelled it some time ago.

I would also argue Peacock’s attempt at Brave New World. Reimagined for the modern era (because really it had to be) and probably took more from Westworld than it did Brave New World, but it was doomed by being a Peacock original.

The flashbacks have flashbacks, and every few minutes there’s a flashback.

Yes, I can follow the plot. But this doesn’t mean I enjoy the constant flashbacks.

Debian Project Leader Addresses New Age Verification Laws

$$22109
https://lemy.lol/u/cm0002 posted on Apr 4, 2026 22:51

Debian Project Leader Andreas Tille has addressed the ongoing debate over age-verification laws and their potential impact on free software operating systems. Long story short: he clarified that Debian has not adopted a position and is awaiting legal analysis.

In his latest “Bits from the DPL” message, Tille stated that the main question is whether operating systems and package distribution mechanisms might be required to provide age-related information to applications.

He noted that Debian and other projects are discussing the issue, and that Software in the Public Interest, a non-profit corporation founded to act as a fiscal sponsor for organizations that develop open-source software and hardware, has begun seeking legal guidance.

There is no law that governs Linux development related to this, enywhere else. There is only a law in CA that requires this functionality (which would break any and all software infrastructure). Why would any maintainer of any Linux distribution, not actively dependent on following an untested law (from a legal PoV), even consider implementing it? This got a lot of headlines, because it’s absurd and stupid.

If maintainers wanted to comply, what the fuck would it actually entail? 99% of operating system doesn’t have any specific human users to identify. The only reasonable approach is to ignore it. If data centers in CA for Azure, AWS, GCP, or any other, wants to comply with this (which is impossible), either spend some of that tax free revenue to combat Meta’s suspected 2 billion USD effort in getting these online ID laws pushed through.
